Commercial aggregation of real time shopping and transactional data for a locality is similar to what Shopping.com and Yahoo!Shopping does on a national level. I have no doubt that curating and delivering local media resources will happen on a massive level because there is consumer demand. Local newspapers once played this role.

Pat,

Once again you make some great points here, the problem is businesses haven't listened...yet. Individuals in the know will curate their own lists using Facebook technology and businesses will be forced to innovate to catch up. Here's an example - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Salt-Lake-City-UT/Utah-Grocery-Coupons/116654415021898

It's a page with all the local grocery store ads in one place. The value add to the consumer is they don't have to go chasing all over the web for the latest ads. The value to the business is it's another source of distribution for their message. I'm using a Flickr feed to post the images and RSS from the company that has it on their site. Very little maintenance once a week and a great value add for the user, who will most certainly share with their friends!

This can be done for many similar businesses and it will.
